It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry L. McKimmy. Jerry passed peacefully on Tuesday April 1 2025 at the age of 83. Jerry was born March 12 1942. He lived a life full of love, passion and dedication for his family, baseball and all the kids he “adopted” in his 30 plus years of coaching.
Jerry was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Alicia McKimmy (nee Guerra), with whom he shared 43 wonderful years. Together they built a beautiful life centered around love and family. He was a proud father to Jerry McKimmy Jr., Charles (Chuck) McKimmy (Theresa), Travis McKimmy (Damiana) and David McKimmy. He was a cherished grandfather to Austin McKimmy, Heather Georges (nee McKimmy), Jennifer West, Cody McKimmy and Corey McKimmy and a loving great grandfather. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Erlene (Mary) McKimmy and his little brother Larry McKimmy.
Jerry dedicated 37 years to Ball Glass, where he worked with pride and commitment. Outside of work he had a deep love and passion for coaching baseball, in which he had donated and dedicated over 30 years and was able to share his love, passion and knowledge for the game. When he wasn’t coaching, you could find him riding his tractor down the sidewalk on the way to the ball field. He dedicated his time and effort to maintaining the Babe Ruth field at Irving Park. He would often have help from the kids he was coaching as well as Travis and David. He always made sure his ball players (kids) were taken care of, whether they needed rides to and from practice and games in the back of his big red pick-up truck, the equipment necessary to play ball, an ear to listen or even a shoulder to cry on. He made sure his kids never went without. Everyone who knew him, knows how big of a heart he had and how dedicated he was to being a father figure and mentor to the several generations of kids he coached.
Jerry will be truly and deeply missed by his family and friends. The world was made a better place with him in it. Until we meet again, you will be with us, always and forever in our hearts. Love always, your family.
