JoAnn Pavnica Obituary

Following a beautiful, loving and well-lived life, we announce the passing of JoAnn Pavnica (nee Murzyn) who died peacefully on 10-22-25, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Hammond, IN JoAnn was preceded in death by all 13 of her siblings and was the youngest child of the late John and Anna Murzyn. She was also preceded in death by her husband Leonard.   JoAnn is survived by her daughters Karen Plemons and Janice (David) Stofcik, as well as her son Joe (Mary Jo) Pavnica.  Her son Ken preceded her in death.  Affectionately known as “Grams,” JoAnn was a loving Grandmother of 11, Great Grandmother of 9 and was recently honored with the title of Great-Great Grandmother.  Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews were blessed by her boundless love as well.

JoAnn’s adventurous spirit was evidenced by her great interest in numerous sports and activities.  She coached girls’ volleyball and basketball teams for many years at Our Lady of Grace School and was an avid, accomplished bowler.  She never missed an opportunity to try her hand at any sport, even parasailing or suiting up in full goalie gear to play street hockey with the grandkids.  She spent countless hours traveling to and watching the various sports activities of her children and grandchildren.  Her love for the Cubs was legendary and provided her a lifetime of joy.

Faith, Family, Friends – these were JoAnn’s priorities, and she lived a life endlessly devoted to them.  JoAnn treated everyone like family, somehow always finding room to squeeze in one more chair at the dinner table.

JoAnn’s memory will forever be cherished, honored and lived out in the lives of her family and all those she touched throughout a beautiful 90 years of life.
