Joan Katherine (Thomas) Burgholzer

Joan Katherine Burgholzer (Thomas) aged 79, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Bryan) Gordon; grandchildren, Sara (Olivia) Gordon and Kyle Gordon; great-grandchild, Bentley; sibling, Robert (Mary) Thomas and favorite grand-dog, Minnie.

Preceded in death by husband, Richard; parents Wilbert and Naomi Thomas; stepmother Esther Thomas and sister Karen (Dan) Simpson.

Joan was born December 14, 1944 in Chicago, IL and was a graduate of St. Willibrord Catholic High School. On May 10, 1969, she married Richard, and together they shared over 40 years settling in Dyer to raise their daughter. Joan retired from Franciscan Hospital after having a career in medical billing for over 30 years.

She was an avid game show watcher and loved spending hours playing her favorite games of solitaire and candy crush. She could often be found in her recliner cheering on the White Sox and Blackhawks and keeping up with her favorite NASCAR races on tv. But, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. She especially loved visits from her grandkids and was excited to become a great-grandma last year.

Joan was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend that will be truly missed by all whose lives she touched. She was a strong woman that faced adversity throughout her life with grace and a determination that never wavered.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm with a moment of prayer and eulogy at 5:30pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322.
