Joan (Golumbeck) Preston

Joan (Golumbeck) Preston, age 88, of Highland, IN, passed away on June 11, 2025. She is survived by her three children: Christopher Preston; Dr. Lisa Preston (Edward Putnam); and Lori Preston-Cox (Robert Cox).
Grandchildren: Joseph (Suzanne) Preston; Shannon and Jeremy Putnam; and Loralie, Nathaniel, Madalynn, Zachary, and Aribelle Cox.
Great-granddaughter: Juniper Preston.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, John (Jack) Preston, and her cherished grandson, Thomas Preston.

Joan lived a life full of creativity and service to others. She loved music and shared her talents by singing on WJOB as a child, participating in marching band at Hammond High, and playing the accordion at area nursing homes. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother, and enjoyed crocheting special gifts for family and friends.

She especially loved working with children and volunteered her time as a catechist to first graders at Our Lady of Grace for over forty years. She also worked as a school tutor before retiring to help care for her grandchildren. Joan was active in her parish’s Altar and Rosary Society and offered her time and talents to countless bake sales, pancake breakfasts, and fundraisers through the years.

Visitation will be held Tuesday June 17, 2025 from 3-7 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Home, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church 3025 Highway Ave., Highland on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Brian Chadwick officiating. Additional visitation 9:45-10:30 a.m. at church before mass. 

Memorial contributions can be made in Joan’s name to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
