Joe “JC” Cervantes, age 70, of Hammond, IN, passed away Thursday September 29, 2022 surrounded by family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lupe; children, John, Lorraine, Lulu, Nelly, David; 26 grandchildren, Liza (Tim), Nikki (Eric), Noey (Angie), Brittany, Junny (Laura), Danielle (Justin), Angelo (Jenny), David, Ariana, Angelina, Angel, Desiree, Destiny, Sebastian, Gianna, Bianca, Jolie, Kamron; 20 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kailyn, Elodie, Presley, Declan, Noah Jr, Jada, Zaniya, Charlie, Brooklyn, Angelo, Emerson, Christian Jr, Codei, Chozen, Sawyer, Tatum, Asher, Jasiah, Osiris; Brothers, Tom and Jimmy Reyes. He is preceded in death by Mother, Jovita Cervantes, and grandson, Christian (Briona).
JC was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Vietnam war onboard USS Molala (ATF 106) from early 1971 to late 1973; honorably discharged in 1973 where he returned home to Chicago, IL. He was a member of the local Softball league who enjoyed drinks at the local bar where he met Lupe in the fall of 1975 and have been happily married ever since. They recently celebrated 47 years together. JC spent his days on several bowling leagues at Andy Rocks while also being the proud owner of Poor Boy’s Lounge in South Chicago. He worked at several companies throughout his life and retired from Cargill in 2015 at 63 years old. After retirement he valued his time with his wonderful family and dogs (Duke, Barkley, Mamas). He will be greatly missed, and never forgotten!
There will be a private visitation held at Hillside Funeral Home in Highland IN for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Humane Society of Northwest.
