Joel "Babe" Guzman

Joel Guzman "Babe", 71 passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025.

He is survived by (1) sister, Elma (Greg) Fulton of Fultondale, Alabama, (6) brothers, Noe of Merrillville, In. Rene (Diana) of Portage, In. Joe Rudy of Michigan City, In. David (Linda) of Valparaiso, In. and Blas and Esequiel Jr, both of Gary, In. and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, Esequiel and Aurora R. Guzman and sister Dalia.

Joel was born October 30, 1953 in Gary, In. He graduated high school in 1972 and went on to become a second-generation steelworker at Inland Steel Co. in East Chicago, In. He retired from ArcelorMittal, Indiana Harbor (Inland Steel Co.) after more than 30 years of service.

Joel was a very active throughout his younger years, enjoying playing baseball, shooting pool and playing guitar, drums and riding his motorcycle. Joel will always be remembered as a very generous and giving person, never expecting anything in return for his kindness. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him well.

Visitation will be October 8, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd. Highland, IN.
