Joseph D. Mikolajczak age 49, passed away from cancer peacefully at home on September 7, 2025.
He is survived by his loving sisters, Kelly Oster and Annie Backs; nephew, Tyler Backs and niece, Haylee Backs, and his cats: Oreo, Lily, and Shadow. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph (Terry) and Geraldine (Gerry) Mikolajczak.
Joe (affectionately called Joey by close family and friends) lived in Calumet City, IL, attended St. Victor Catholic School, and graduated from TF North. During his teens and early 20’s, Joe worked at the family business, Joe’s Video. His 27 year career in the gaming industry began at the age of 22 when he was excited to get a job at the “boat”.
Joe had a warm heart and a joyful spirit, bringing fun and laughter wherever he went. His favorite summer days were filled with water skiing, boating, fishing and fireworks surrounded by his family at the lake. Joe especially enjoyed family game nights as jokes, stories, and laughs were shared around the card table. He was always up for an adventure but he especially cherished his road trips visiting landmarks, casinos, and amusement parks with his lifelong friend. He was an avid bowler, known for his “no thumb throw” and proud of his several 300 games. With Joe around, you were guaranteed a steady stream of food, movie, and TV reviews. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his honesty, kindness, and witty humor.
