Joseph Imre Obituary

Joseph Andrew Imre (84) of Griffith, IN was called to rest on Dec 30, 2020. "Joe" was born in Novi Sad, Hungary on Nov 16, 1936 and immigrated to the United States in 1950, never forgetting his homeland while diving, vibrantly, into all things American. He was a life-long fan of Notre Dame, Yankees and his local favorite, Cubs ("I'll give them one more year" and he did). "Joe" became a dedicated and prolific girls softball coach, teaching the sport to hundreds of players and amassing a host of Indiana regional and state championships. After retiring from 42 years of service with US Steel-Gary Works, he spent his retirement with golf clubs, friends and family (all of whom knew better than to extend their hand to meet his crushing grip).

Joseph left behind his loving wife, Brenda (Griffith) of 34 years and six children: Karen Imre; Griffith, Joann (Bryan) Korzeniewski; Crown Point, Renee (Jeffrey) Kozlica; Crown Point, Lisa (Jim) Brown; Puerto Vallarta MX, John (Regina) Imre; Dallas, Malinda (Brian) Dickerson; Schererville. Joseph is additionally survived by his sister Kathleen Lines; Valparaiso and brother Andrew (Velvet) Imre; Chesterton. Josesph also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Joseph is preceded in death by his first wife Ann (Zak) Imre, his father John Imre and mother Ethel Imre.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 at St Mary Catholic Church, 525 N. Broad Street, Griffith, IN, 46319 at 10:00 am.
