Joseph “Joey” Porter, age 44, of Crown Point, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2025. He was born on August 5th, 1981 in Munster, Indiana.
He’s survived by his devoted, loving and supportive wife Chrissy, of 26 years, his three children and the center of his world, daughter Yasmine (Matthew) Porter and sons Cameron and Caden Porter. Joey is survived by his mother Chris Beam, siblings Carl Ray (Candice) Porter, John (Emily) Houston, Kimberly (Johnny) Nunez, and Stephanie Beam. MIL & FIL Ann & Jim Hanson. Sibling-in-laws Jenny (Shane) Illyes, Danielle (Ev) Stafford, Michelle Hanson, and Nicole (Kyle) Krause. Nephews and Nieces Christopher, Kristi, Kathy, Kelly, Kyle, Kayla, Zack, Jonathan, Jackson, Johnny, Cameryn, Teddy, and Lincoln.
Joey was preceded in death by his father Carl Porter Sr and FIL Jim Coleman.
By trade, Joey was a skilled welder earning the name Golden Arm, and a proud member of the Pipefitters local 597. Joey was previously a Metals Mechanic, for BP Refinery for 12 years. He took great pride in his craftmanship and strong work ethic. He was respected by co-workers and took satisfaction and pride in being one of the most skilled welders in his career. His personality and humor was one of a kind. Bringing positivity, wit, and just enough sarcasm to make the toughest work days enjoyable.
Joey was a dedicated coach for softball, baseball, football, and basketball over the past 21 years, selflessly dedicating his time to mentor young athletes. He believed in teaching not only the game but also the values of teamwork, discipline and perseverance. Joey will be remembered for a steady presence, generous heart and willingness to help others. His impact will live on through his family, the many players he coached, and all that had the privilege of knowing him.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy as a hardworking provider, a committed coach and above all, a loving husband and father. Joey's charming smile and beautiful blue eyes will never be forgotten. Joey will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd, Highland, IN 46322
