Karen Renee (Nagel) Cloghessy

Karen Renee Cloghessy (née Nagel), age 63, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026.

Born on December 21, 1962, Karen was a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana. She grew up in Highland and had resided in Schererville since 2002. Karen graduated from Highland High School and later earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Business Management from Purdue University.

Throughout her career, Karen worked for several Northwest Indiana employers, including G.W. Berkheimer, Omega Steel and Contractor Supply, the Franciscan Health Network, and Precision Survey Corporation.

Karen was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, James 'Jim' Cloghessy; her children, Jillian Cloghessy of Indianapolis, IN, Dana Cloghessy of Schererville, IN, and Kenneth Cloghessy of Hammond, IN; her father, Kenneth Nagel of Dyer, IN, and her brothers, Paul Nagel  (Joyce) of  Melissa, TX and David Nagel (Kristen) of Zionsville, IN.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marcella 'Marcie' Nagel.

Karen found joy in the simple but meaningful things in life. She loved bowling, her homemade macaroni salad, planting flowers, pedicures, hosting family and friends, relaxing outdoors by her pool, visiting the beach and mountains, country music, watching movies, and spending time on family vacations. She will be remembered for her brilliance, caring heart, dedication to her family, and the warmth she brought to those around her. She had an unwavering faith and her love for Jesus was the most tangible thing about her. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 4:00-8:00pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd, Highland, IN.

Funeral Mass on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:30am with Rev. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating at St. James the Less Catholic Church, Highland, IN.

Visitation from 10:00am until time of Mass at the church.
