Karen Sue (Winrotte) Kuiper

Karen Sue Kuiper (nee Winrotte) of Highland, formerly of Gary was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 8, 2021. Karen leaves behind her devoted husband Konnie of 54 years. She was a loving mother to Laura Kuiper and Julie (Kyle) Strbiak, and a very proud grandmother to Dr. Kaitlin Vass, Michael Vass, Carli Strbiak, and Jenna Strbiak. She is also survived by her sister Judy (Mike) LeDuc, brother-in-law Dick (Sandy) Kuiper, sister-in-law Della (late John) Meengs, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Karen received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ball State University in the field of education. After graduation, she taught in New York for a period of time before returning to Indiana to teach at Merkley Elementary School in Highland, which was named after her family. As a former member of Ross Reformed Church, she served in many ministries of the church. For the past several years Karen and Konnie attended Suburban Bible Church. Karen enjoyed cross stitch, painting, ceramics, and playing the piano. She was a woman of God and made a difference in the lives of all her family and those that knew her. She will be dearly missed.    

Friends are invited to meet with the family at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 on Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Suburban Bible Church, 3010 41st St, Highland, IN at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021 with a visitation from 9:00 am to time of service at the church with Pastor Adam VanGorp officiating. Interment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Memorials may be given to Highland Christian School in her memory.
