Kent Edward Thomas, 65, of Highland, Indiana (formerly of Dolton, Illinois), passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on August 3, 1959, in Blue Island, Illinois, Kent was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend. He shared 38 wonderful years of marriage with his wife Michelle (nee Scarnavack), and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and family. Kent was a dedicated father to Brian, Robert, Jacklyn (Aaron) Vance, and Jessica, and a proud grandfather to Ryan, Sydney, Bailey, Elijah, Rylee, Reagan, and Isaac.
Kent is also survived by his brother Craig (Lorie) Thomas along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Janice Thomas, and his sister, Patti Ann Thomas.
Kent worked for the State of Illinois for 38 years, serving with dedication at Tinley Park Mental Health Center and later at Madden Mental Health Center until his retirement in 2021. His work touched many lives, and he was known for his commitment, compassion, and easygoing nature.
Kent had a big heart and an even bigger personality. He had a love for Chicago sports — especially the Bears and the White Sox — and found joy on the golf course whenever he could. A true rock-and-roller at heart, Kent was passionate about music, with a special place in his heart for KISS and classic rock anthems.
Whether it was cheering on his teams, blasting his favorite songs, or cracking a joke to make someone smile, Kent lived with spirit and warmth. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a short prayer at 5:30 at Hillside Funeral Home, 8941 Kleinman Rd, Highland, IN 46322.
