Kevin Prohl Obituary

Kevin James Prohl, Age 45 of Portage, IN passed away suddenly on Thursday July 23rd, 2026, in Portage while visiting family. He was born on August 20th, 1980, in Munster, Indiana.

Kevin survives by his wife Jennifer, his father Jim Prohl, his parents Debra and Jim Huitsing, in-laws William and Lisa Snyder, children, Conner and Emily Kummer and William and Harley Beshears; his siblings, Kris Dills, Keith (Michelle) Dills; and Kirt Dills, with numerous beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides.

Kevin grew up in the Griffith, Highland area of NWI graduating from Highland High School in 1999. He excelled in sports and loved playing video games. After High School Kevin moved to Florida and joined the family business before enlisting in the Army to patriotically serve his community and his country.

After returning home being honorably discharged including tours of service in Afghanistan, Kevin met and married Jennifer Snyder returning home to Northwest Indiana where he spent time within the community becoming a troop leader for cub scouts, a football coach, and a business owner serving his community again.

If you knew Kevin, you knew about his fascination with his ideas of freedom. It became a well-known and memorable part of his personality. He would always leave you with the impression that life is what you make it, and to not let anyone stop you from succeeding in your own life. He took great pride in guiding and mentoring children in his troop and teams that he coached. He also extended that same love, guidance, and care to the people he met daily, encouraging those to pursue what they felt was right. He had all the kids chanting "We Will Rock You" loud and proud.

To know Kevin was to love him, and he left a mark on this world that will live on forever. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. "Though gone from our sight, his love and the memories he gave us will live on forever in our hearts."
