Larry Mayden Obituary

Larry Mayden, 77, of Highland, Indiana passed away January 4th, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Kathy, his two daughters, Sheryl (Dan) Siecker of Hammond, Indiana and Shelly Mayden of Highland, Indiana. He is also survived by his sister, Linda (Donald) Olenik, sister-in-law Linda Mayden , brother-in-law Bill (Cindy) Horvat, sister-in-law Mary Horvat, and goddaughter Angela Savino. There we also some very special people in Larry's life, Miss Angela Golub of Highland aka MM, and her family, Jim Susan. John Golub, his best friend Joe Nieckula, his buddies he watched football with on numerous occasions in the hobo hut Dave Sharp, Adam Maley, and their families, Marv Scofied, Fred Van Senus, and Pat & Jerry Kerber.

He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Larry is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Evelyn Mayden, brother Dan Mayden, nephew Mark Olenik  in-laws Andrew and Caterine Horvat, brothers-in-law Richard, Bob, and Andrew Horvat, and sister-in-law Bonnie Horvat,

Larry graduated from Morton High School in 1961. After graduating, he joined the Army National Guard where he served for six years. Larry married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart Kathy (Horvat) Mayden. They then moved to Highland to start their family. 

His passions were fishing, boating, and decorating his house for Christmas on Candy Cane Lane in Highland where he won 1st place numerous times. His biggest hobby was going to the race track with his friends and nephews in which he was the PR GUY and pit crew for Horvat Racing with Bill and David Horvat, Rickshaw Racing with Kenny and Rodney, Stahnke Racing with Larry and Rodney, Extreme Thumder with nephew Tim Skertich, and was looking forward to next season with 'THE FIREBIRD' with nephew Brandon Foster. They traveled to RT 66 , Morrocco speedway Union Grove Wisconsin and wherever else his nephews and friends took him to. Larry was a die hard Notre Dame fan. He could coach better than Lou Holtz. He was also a huge dog lover. Larry was loved by so many people, too numerous to name. Larry was the best father anyone could ever ask for.

In lieu of flowers donations in his name to the family would be appreciated.

Visitation will be Friday, January 8, 2021 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm with a Funeral Service at 6:30 pm.
