Laura Schmidt

Laura Jo Schmidt, Age 57, of Gary, IN, passed away on Saturday February 13, 2021. Laura J. Schmidt is survived by her beautiful daughter Mayreen Davis of Hammond, IN and her handsome son Steven Davis (Nicole Davis) of Gary, IN. Laura is also survived by her five wonderful grandchildren Steven C. Davis (Ramiee Davis) of Griffith, IN; Amber Davis of Hammond, IN; Emily, Elizabeth and Little Steven Davis of Hammond, IN, as well as her two great grandbabies Caden and Eleanor Davis of Griffith, IN. Laura is survived by her two brothers Matthew Schmidt of Gary, IN; Mickey Schmidt (Caroll Schmidt) of Lowell, IN and sister Myrtha Schmidt (Wade Bell) of Gary IN. Also survived are many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and her dog. Laura J. Schmidt is preceded in death by her mother Sherry Schmidt, sister Theresa Schmidt, brother John Schmidt, and niece Sherry C. Schmidt.

Laura Jo had blonde hair, blue eyes, and was an adventurous and free spirited woman. She was very giving and a little wild at times, but that’s what we loved most about her. Laura loved the color yellow and adored collecting owls her whole life. Two people that really inspired her were Dolly Parton and Stevie Nicks, as she knew every word to their songs. Laura and her siblings shared a friendship like no other, and they hold many memories that will last a lifetime! Her most precious moments in life include being in the presence of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Laura loved every moment she got to spend with family and friends, whether it was good or bad. 

We promise to cherish our memories of her, a lot of Laura will always live in us. Like Sleeping Beauty, may Laura rest peacefully.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322, on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm, a service will begin at 12:00 pm.
