Lawrence "Larry" Steffel

Lawrence “Larry” Steffel, a resident of Beverly Shores, Indiana, peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

He is survived by wife, Donna Excell-Steffel; daughter Lori; son Christoper (Amy); step-daughters, to whom he was a dad, Kristen (Todd) Tufnell, Katie (Kevin) Anderson, and Julie (Brett) Dyke; grandchildren Jeremy (Alyson) Tufnell, Jessie (Ben) Tackett, Steven (Lizzy) Dyke, Evan Dyke, and Violet, Iris, and Margeaux “Daisy” Anderson; and brothers William (Gail) and Ric (Catherine). He was beloved “Uncle Lar” to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Veronica (Minich) and William.

Larry was born January 1, 1944 in Hammond, Indiana. He was a graduate of Clark High School, and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Purdue University. He and Donna were married on January 5, 1991. His professional career was devoted to assisting teens and young adults as Director of Hammond CETA, Director of the Degree Completion Program at Calumet College of St. Joseph, and retiring as an academic advisor at Purdue University Northwest.

Larry was a proud Eagle Scout and kept in touch with his fellow Eagle Scouts throughout his lifetime.

Larry was an active volunteer in the Town of Beverly Shores, including being past president of the Association of Beverly Shores Residents. Larry loved knowledge and reading, and all outdoor activities—hiking, biking, swimming, boating, and, as a devoted wanderer, exploring unfamiliar areas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in Beverly Shores.
