Leonard Louis Dora

Leonard Louis Dora, age 98, of Highland, IN, passed away Monday October 11, 2021. He is survived by his sons Dan (Susan Krieger) and Larry (Chris) Dora; grandchildren: Stephen (Angi) Dora, Jon (Kelli) Dora, Grambi Dora, Sarah Dora, and Caitlin (Brendan) Jameyfield; great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Brady Martin, Crosby, Emma, June, and Faye Dora. Preceding him in death was his beloved wife Judy Dora, brother, Walter Dora, parents Stephan and Anna May Dora.

Leonard was a long-term North Hammond resident. When Leonard was young, he served in the US Army during WWII as an aircraft combat soldier in the South Pacific. He served for several years before being honorably discharged and returning home to North Hammond. After the war, he worked at Standard Oil as an operator where he was employed for over 40 years.  He met his wife, Judy, and created their own family in North Hammond with their two boys. In his spare time, Leonard was a skilled woodworker and greatly enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was an active member of the Hammond Mohawks, VFW #802, American Legion Post #428, Standard Oil Annuitants’ Club, Honor Flight Chicago, and Our Lady of Grace Church. His unwavering work ethic, quick-witted jokes, and openness to try “something different”, as he always said, will be greatly missed by all.

 Wake services will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinmann Rd. Highland, IN 46322 on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with the funeral services immediately following at Our Lady of Grace Church, 3025 Highway, Highland, IN 46322, at 12:30 PM. Father Brian will be officiating. Following the funeral, internment will be at ­­­Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital , Our Lady of Grace Church or a charity of your choice in Leonard's name.
