Lizette Piessens Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Lizette A. Piessens, who left us on Friday, May 16, 2025. Born on May 12,1934 to Karel Lodewijk and Celestine (Pilaet) Von Lombergen in Meerdonk (WAAS), Belgium. Lizette was a beloved wife, parent, grandmother, sibling, aunt and friend to many and an extraordinary individual who touched the lives of everyone she met. On June 9,1956 she married John Piessens in Meerdonk (WAAS), Belgium. They immigrated to the United States in 1961 and settled in Chicago, Illinois, and raised three children. In 1994 they moved to Big McKenzie Lake, Wisconsin and resided in the town of Casey. Lizette was preceded in death by her parents, Karel Lodewijk and Celestine Von Lombergen; her husband, John Piessens; one son, Karl Piessens; one daughter, Eveline Zebro; and two sisters; Greta (Von Lombergen) Vonck; and Marcella (Von Lombergen) Kuse. Lizette is survived by one son, Patrick (Candy) Piessens; one sister, Mariette Von Lombergen; six grandchildren, Stephanie Piessens (Edward Deceault); Meghan (Luke) Baker; Mackenzie (Jordan) Holmquist; Melanie Barnes (Luke Zaiser); Justin (Teresa) Piessens; Karl Piessens; Christopher (Teresa) Piessens; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, special friends, Gwen, Lavonne, and Michelle; who will miss her dearly. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Lizette brought joy, laughter, and kindness to the world through her actions, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was known for her generosity, humor, compassion, unwavering dedication to caring for and cooking for her family and friends, her love of pets, her years as a CNA at Loyola Medical Center, involvement in her Church, returning home to Belgium to visit her family, archery, going to the casino, spending time with her friends.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Lizette’s life will be held on June 28, 2025, 11:00 AM at Carmelite Fathers Church (CHAPEL), 1628 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana 46321. Father Bruno Socha will officiate. Online condolences can be offered by visiting hillsidefuneralhome@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or American Red Cross, if applicable, in Lizette’s honor. May Lizette rest in eternal peace, knowing the profound impact she had on those who were lucky enough to know her.
