Lois Jane White, age 92, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 with family at her bedside. Lois was born Dec. 20, 1933 to William Miller and Catherine Miller (Eisenhutt).
Lois attended St. Joseph Elementary School in Hammond and graduated from Hammond High School in 1951. Shortly thereafter, she married Donald R. White and together they raised 4 daughters and 3 sons on a shoestring budget. Mom ruled the roost and expected all of us to respect our elders and bring home good grades. If we got in trouble at school, we got in trouble at home.
Lois is survived by six of her children; Linda Hawkins (Raymond), Thomas White, Donald White (Valorie), Carolyn Dobis (Jeff), Lois Coto (Raymond) and Leah Wintczak (Joe), and daughter-in-law Linda White. Lois has 25 grandchildren; Ryan Hawkins (late Jennifer), Natalie Hawkins, Jacqueline Menager (Olivier), Melissa Turner (Matt), Cassandra White, Michael J. White, Johnathan Chambers (Erica), Ryne White, Robert White, Vanessa Rastovsky, Christina MacDonald (Brian), Catherine White, Katie DeYoung (Mike), Eric Dobis (Erin), William Coto, Lauren Gonzalez (Enrique), Mallory Malinowski (Mike), Ashley Wintczak, Emily Wintczak, Nicholas Wintczak, and Desirae Wintczak. Lois has 24 great-grandchildren; Jacob and Elyse Turner, Cody and Daisy Hawkins, Alex, Luc and Theo Menager, Ethan Chambers, Parker and Paisley White, Angelena and Madison Green, Giana Ballard, Casey and Kaelyn MacDonald, Sophia and Olivia DeYoung, Amelia Dobis, Chyenne Coto, William and Rochelle Coto,Elizabeth and Alexis Gonzales, Margot and Mikey Malinowski, and Desirae Wintczak. She has one great-great-grandchild, Lance Dabrowski and one more on the way.
She is survived by her sister, Karen Sarsfield (late Joseph) and several nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a cousin, Sally and good friend, LouiseOman. She was predeceased by husband, Donald Robert White, son, Michael White, grandson Sean Dobis and great-grandson, Jacob Hawkins.
Lois wore many hats: She was a Tupperware dealer for many years, worked at Merle Norman Salon in Woodmar; Nolly’s Bridal Salon; church secretary at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hammond. She baked professional quality cakes. She was a den leader for the Boy Scouts, chaired numerous church festivals while at St.John Bosco. She ALWAYS dropped everything if someone was sick. She sat by her 3-yr old daughter’s bedside for 100 days straight after she suffered third degree burns and we have no doubt she saved our little sister’s life. Mom even took a few college courses thinking about getting her nursing degree. She touched so many lives!
Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026 from 3:00-7:00 at Hillside Funeral Home, 8942 Kleinman Rd., Highland, IN.
