Louise Bernicky, age 93, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025. She passed peacefully at Hospice of the Calumet Area-WJ Riley Memorial Residence in Munster after a long battle with dementia, surrounded by love and family. Now, she is free from pain and struggle.
She is survived by her loving sons, Christopher Bernicky (Kathy) and Scott Bernicky (Mary); grandchildren Shawn Bernicky (Jeanine), Amanda Bernicky, and Michael Bernicky (Delaina); and great-grandson Will Bernicky.
Preceded in death by her husband, Valentino Bernicky, her parents, Peter and Elizabeth Rasmussen, and her sisters.
Louise lived a full life, filled with laughter, love, and grace. She graduated from Whiting High School. Louise met her husband while working at Amoco in Whiting, Indiana. They raised their two sons in Griffith, Indiana, where she spent years enriching her community as a librarian at the Griffith Library. She had an impeccable sense of style—her collection of shoes and purses in every color was legendary! Her wit and humor remained bright until the very end.
The family will hold a private service, and she will be buried next to her beloved husband, Valentino “Mick” Bernicky
You will be missed deeply, Mom, but we find comfort knowing you’re reunited with Dad and dancing among the angels. May God bless you and keep you.
We want to thank all those who helped with Mom over the last 10 years. She had many special caretakers, and we have special friends who would stop by and visit her or send cards. Thank you for all your love and support.
We’d also like to thank the staff at the Riley House for their kindness and loving care while Mom was there and all those who donate and work to make this quality end-of-life care possible.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of Calumet Area in memory of Louise would be cherished.
