Lucy Whitehead, age 84, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021. She is survived by her husband, Doug; Children - Sharon (Jim) Raucci, Susan Amos, Steve (Vicki) Whitehead, and Lydia (Jerome) Lodovisi: Grandchildren - Rebecca (Mike) Andree, Ross Whitehead, and Ryan Whitehead; Great-Grandchildren, Alayna Andree, Mason Andree, and Logan Andree; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death – Her parents James and Cora Fuson; Siblings Rose (Merle) Newman, James (Eva) Fuson, and Cletus Fuson; Grandson John “JD” Amos II.
Lucy was a devoted homemaker and spouse to Doug and mother to her four children. In her early years, she worked at Walgreens where she first met her husband, Doug. They were married on June 1, 1957, in Hammond, Indiana, where they began their life together. Lucy was involved with the family business, Calumet Bowling Lanes, and later worked at Wadsworth Elementary School in Griffith, Indiana. She was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hammond, Indiana, and later a charter member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Minong, Wisconsin, participating in the choir and bible study. She enjoyed crafts, solving word puzzles, playing cribbage, and playing cards with both family and friends. She was a very avid reader and was often found curled up with a book or watching a western on TV. She was known to be very feisty among her friends.
Visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd), Highland, IN 46322 on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm with the funeral services following immediately at 12:30 PM. Pastor Dave Adams officiating. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn in Crown Point, Indiana. Memorials may be given to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or New Hope Lutheran Church, 801 Houston Ave, Minong, WI 54859.
