Marcus "Mark" L. Cooper, 86, passed into heaven Wednesday, September 6, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 21, 1937 in Muskegon, MI to Leroy and Pearl (Rowe) Cooper, who preceded him in death. He was the eldest of eight children.
Mark's most important decision in life was made at the age of seventeen, when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Marrying Patricia (Naruszkiewicz) on June 6, 1959 was the second best decision of his life. Together, they raised four grateful children: Dave (Alice) Cooper of Merrillville, IN; Lori (Steve) Warren of Hebron, IN; Tom (Dianne) Cooper of Elida, OH; and Marc (Annetta) Cooper of Bettendorf, Iowa. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mark's service to his Lord was most notably through four churches: Calvary Baptist Church (Highland); Lake Hills Baptist Church (Schererville); First Baptist Church (Eaton Rapids); and for the last 28 years, Emmanuel Baptist Church (Hebron). He effectively served in many capacities such as deacon, song leader, choir director, trumpeter, Awana Clubs Commander (36 years), board member of Calumet Baptist Schools, mentor to many young men, Awana Advisory Board member in MI and IN, and an athlete and umpire as well.
Mark was recognized by Gerber Baby Products as their top salesman and retired after 29 years of excellent work.
Much could be said in his honor, and to summarize: Mark served by leading in many capacities and always led by serving. Countless people looked up to him because of his servant's heart. His true legacy lies in the love and memories he cultivated with his family and friends. He was always and only interested in others above self. He lived his life with integrity and faithfulness to God, his wife, children, and their children. Mark was a wise and noble husband and father who always pointed others to the loving Heavenly Father to whom all praise is due.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 769 W 800 S, Hebron, IN, 46341 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a funeral service at 2:00pm with Pastor Frank McClure officiating.
A private graveside service will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crown Point, IN.
