Maria Christina (Zuniga) Zamora

Maria Christine (nee Zuniga) Zamora born on August 30, 1967 in East Chicago IN, passed away peacefully on Feb 1, 2025. Born into a very religious Catholic family, she was 2nd oldest of 6 children, daughter of Maria and Manberto Zuniga. This tiny but Mighty opinionated sibling always defended and looked out for her family. Maria graduated salutatorian of Hammond High School class of 85. This wildcat alum was involved in various extra curriculars including the newspaper, journalism, and the Pomcats Dance Team. Maria had a very strong work ethic that began at the young age of 15. Her work ethic transitioned from lead key to team-leader to midnight supervisor. Along the way she started a loving family of her own with Rafael Zamora and gave birth to five beautiful children, Angelica (30), Bernadette (28), Joseph (27), John (25) and Robert (23). Her culinary excellence didn't go unnoticed as her children can confirm her Spanish rice, carrot cake and tamales were among their favorites. She took pride in all aspects of her life whether it be at work, home, play or at church. And the home was exquisitely decorated for every occasion from a simple birthday, 4th of July BBQ or her 2 most favorite seasons, Fall/Harvest and Christmas. As Maria wore many hats both literal and figurative, the one that she wore best was the one of a kind and sweet caring loving mother. She left a lasting impression on all who she met. Maria's spirit will live on through her five children, loving husband, five siblings and many dear friends. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Eduardo Malagon officiating at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 4340 Johnson Avenue Hammond, IN 46327.

Interment to follow at St John/St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
