In very loving memory:
Maria “Mary” Chapman was born May 10,1957 and went home to God on January 18, 2026 after life long health issues and a long courageous battle with lung cancer.
Maria grew up in northwest Indiana while embracing her heritage and culture of Puerto Rico. She dedicated her life to helping others, the very definition of a mother to anyone who met her. She lived her life with god’s grace and open arms, helping anyone she could, working at churches, with charities and women’s shelters. She would selflessly go without to help someone else, even if it was all she had.
Luke 21:1-4: 21 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
She took in all her grandchildren at one time or another, raising them and always protecting them. Her grandchildren and great grandchild were her sunlight as she always lovingly put it. Mi verdadera mamá.
A woman of faith and education, a poet and writer, a lover of music and she had the best sense of humor. In her spare time, she would take care of her plants and her gardens. Maria loved to cook, used to throw pizza parties for the kids in the neighborhood. She loved cooking with her granddaughters and sharing her culture. You could always go to grandma’s house day or night and you would always leave her house with a warm, full stomach and knowing you are, and were, loved unconditionally.
She is joined in heaven by her mother, Lola; her in laws; her son; her son-in-law Donnie; and many siblings. She is survived by her grandchildren: Andrew, Celeste(precious great grandson Onyx) Alex, Brandon, Samantha and Jenna.
John 14:1-4: 14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Maria never liked to make a fuss about anything, so there will be no services at this time. Instead, it would be greatly appreciated if anyone had any photos, favorite memories and stories of Maria- please email her granddaughter, Celeste at Celeste.lynn03@gmail.com so that Maria’s great grandson Onyx can read and have shared memories for when he is older.
May she dwell in his heavenly peace, and her memory will continue to inspire love, faith, warmth and comfort in our hearts forever.
Te amaré y te extrañaré por toda la eternidad .
Que duermas bien Mama.
