Marietta (Mary) Peek, age 76, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kelli Neyhart; grandchildren, Amber (Brian) Farmer, Jasmine Neyhart and Haley Neyhart; great-grandchild, Beau Neyhart-Norvil; several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, Melvin and Mattie Lou Peek; brother, William Crumley; and sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Harmon, Catherine Norsworthy and Margaret Marsh.
Marietta was born in a share-croppers' shack on September 30, 1948 in Tyronza, AR. She was a 1966 graduate of Wells High School in Chicago and went on to become a successful business owner in East Chicago, IN with her business partner, Don Sparks.
She was a mover and a shaker, for sure. She had NUMEROUS friends and business acquaintances from all over the country as well as over-seas. All of whom, I'm sure, appreciated her for her warm & caring nature as well as her candidness, confidence and tenacity. She was a force to be reckoned with!
She enjoyed being with family most of all; and being the capable hero if/when anyone needed help - in any form. She would listen, advise, even commandeer a troubling situation if that was the applicable remedy. One of her favorite sayings was: "I'll shoot or drive, Baby." She only wanted her loved-ones to be comfortable and not have to worry about anything.
Mary was a loving and caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be immeasurably missed by ALL who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A Gathering of Family & Friends for a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road,) Highland, IN, 46322.
