Marilyn Gossman, age 82, of Saint John, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 2, 2020. Marilyn was born on April 21, 1937, and grew up on a farm near Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, then enjoyed a teaching career at Lansing Christian School and Highland Christian School. She married Arvin Gossman, and they made their home in Highland, Indiana, and later in St. John, Indiana. Marilyn lived life on a foundation of the love of God. This shaped her becoming both a loving wife and loving, nurturing mother. She and Arvin created a nurturing home environment where they raised their three children who always knew they were cared for and loved by their parents and by God. Her life verse was Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
During her life, Marilyn was involved in teaching others about Jesus and the Bible through a children’s Bible club, through Coffee Break women’s Bible study ministry, and Freedom Bound jail ministry. Marilyn enjoyed participating in the church choir and the handbell choir at Second Highland Christian Reformed Church, now New Life Christian Reformed Church. She helped plan many meaningful worship services while serving on the church worship committee. Marilyn also enjoyed planting and caring for flowers in her yard, traveling the country with her husband, and spending time with family and friends across the United States.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Arvin, son Brad, daughter Lisa (Craig) Lohmann, daughter Lori (Chris) Casselman, grandchildren Alex and Grace Casselman, siblings Glenyce (late Donley) Broekhuis, Don (Ardis) Pranger, Beverly (John) Vander Beek, Gary (Pamela) Pranger and Douglas Pranger, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents Richard and Henrietta Pranger, parents-in-law Walter and Leora Gossman, brother-in-law Donley Broekhuis, and brother- and sister-in-law Ronald and Mary Gossman.
Private funeral services were held Saturday April 4, 2020, with Pastor Bill Systma officiating. She was interred at Hope Cemetery in Highland.
Memorial gifts may be designated to the Coffee Break Ministry at New Life Christian Reformed Church, or to Highland Christian School or Lansing Christian School.
