Marilyn Jane (née Shebesh) Monahan, age 85, of Highland, Indiana, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 9, 2026 with her family at her side. She was born on March 10, 1941 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late William Walter and Mary Ann (Pepkowski) Shebesh.
As a child, Marilyn most enjoyed the time she spent with her “buscha”, Anna (Sztyk) Pepkowski. Sadly, she passed away when Marilyn was only 11 years old. Through the years, Marilyn never forgot her, the things they did together, or her love for her.
Marilyn graduated from Griffith High School, Class of 1959. On July 16, 1960, she married Robert Orville Houser. Together they had one daughter, Linda Rebecca Goble, who survives. Marilyn worked for, and later retired from, the Wise Way Corporation. Later in life, she married John T. Monahan, who preceded her in death.
Marilyn loved to fish, read, watch western movies, and care for her home that was once owned by her grandmother she loved so much. Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family. She shared a special bond with her grandson William “Bill” Lee Goble, his wife Tara L (Beckham), and their children Kaley Beckham and Gavin Goble.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Rebecca Goble; grandson, William Lee (Tara) Goble; great-granddaughter, Kaley Beckham; great-grandson, Gavin Goble; siblings, Patricia Ann Kinnaird, and James L (Lynn) Shebesh; her feline companion, Coco; dear friends, Chuck and Linda Fogarty; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, William Walter Shebesh and Mary Ann Rozanski; brothers, John Andrew Thellman, Walter William (Debbie) Shebesh, and Anton James Shebesh; sister, Theresa Pauline (John C) Monahan.
We will miss her laugh, her wisdom, and all her stories she had yet to share.
In accordance with her wishes a private family memorial will take place, and her remains will be scattered at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marilyn's name may be made to: https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ or: https://www.humaneindiana.org/donate
