Mario H. Gomez, age 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025.
He was born on December 17, 1938, in Bustamante, Nuevo León, Mexico. Mario first married Mary Gomez, with whom he shared three children. After her passing, he later remarried Ma. Felisa L. Gomez.
Mario was a longtime resident of Highland, Indiana, and a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in East Chicago, IN. He took great pride in his work and retired from Inland Steel (now Cleveland-Cliffs) after many years of dedicated service in the 12” Bar Mill.
He is lovingly remembered as the father of the late Grace Andrade (Juan), and cherished grandfather of Mary, Johnny, Eric, and Erica Andrade; father of Mario (Laura) Gomez, and proud grandfather of Gabrielle Gomez (fiancé Joel Henderson) and Alexandra Bonta (Brandon); father of Ernesto Gomez, and grandfather of Shane and Logan Gomez (mother Erin Gomez); and stepfather to Juan Alejandro Espinosa Leon (Julisa). He is also survived by his sister Susana Salas, as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Gomez; his parents, Ponciano and Martha Gomez; his brother, Marco Gomez; and his brother-in-law, Miguel Salas.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with interment at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
