Mathilda (Octhun) Hogan

Mathilda C. Hogan (Octhun), age 94, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 27th, 2025

She is survived by her children, Michael (late Margaret) Hogan, Mary Hogan, Lynne Hogan-Fejdasz; her grandson, Justin Fejdasz, and numerous cousins, extended family, and dear friends.  

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hogan, and her mother, Mary Octhun Jenco. 

Mathilda was born on July 6th, 1931, in East Chicago, Indiana, and was a 1949 graduate of Bishop Noll Institute. She went on to study her great love of music in St. Louis, Missouri, where she added another great love to her life, Robert. They married in August of 51 and spent 21 beautiful years together traveling the states due to Robert’s military service before resettling in her hometown of East Chicago, Indiana, where they raised their family. She was a devout member of Assumption Church in East Chicago, Our Lady of Grace in Highland, Indiana, and an officer of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.

When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed going out dancing with her friends and family, increasing her famous collection of penguin-themed items, singing in her church choir, and spending time with her grandson.

Mathilda was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all those who knew her and will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Those who knew her best will remember her warmth, her music, and the way she and Robert filled each July with three days of independence and joy, celebrating his July 4th birthday, her July 6th birthday, and the life they built together in between.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025, from 9:45 am to 10:30 am, followed by Mass immediately after at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 3025 Highway Ave, Highland, Indiana. Following the funeral Mass, there will be a luncheon at Purple Steer, 8601 Indianapolis Boulevard, Highland, Indiana.
