Matthew Philip Sawyer, age 35, of Highland passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023. He is survived by his beloved daughter Kaiza; parents Phil and Renee, brother Michael, sister Megan and nephew Aaron; grandparents Mel and Karen Blair; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Arthur and Joan Sawyer.

Matthew graduated from Highland High School and received sacraments from St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a rising star as an insurance claims specialist for The Region Public Adjusters. Matthew was passionate in all he did; he enjoyed fishing, bowling, cheering on the Cubs and Bears, cooking, singing, and photography. Matthew looked forward every year to vacation in the north woods, Renaissance Faire, visiting the pumpkin patch, and Halloween season. He was an avid reader, viewer and collector of fantasy and science fiction epics, and shared a love of anime adventures with his daughter.  Matthew was creative and artistic and was “exceptionally hard-working, infinitely fair-minded and most importantly a fierce, fierce friend”, had a keen sense of humor, and was great at games, repairs, remodeling and construction. He always had a kind greeting for friends and strangers alike. Matthew devoted his energy to helping family and friends, and most of all to Kaiza.

Visitation will be Friday October 20, 2023 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN 46322 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center at 9:00 am Saturday, Rev. Keith M. Virus officiating. Burial at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Crown Point, IN.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Matthew's daughter, in his memory, for her future education.
