Melvin Carl Schaub

Melvin Schaub age 91, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. He will be remembered with deep affection by his family and by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Melvin is survived by his many nieces and nephews, who dearly loved him and will continue to hold his memory close in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Carl Schaub; his brothers, Robert Schaub and Edward (Joanne) Schaub; and his sister, Eileen (Jonte) Jernberg.

Melvin lived a long and meaningful life centered around family and the lasting memories they shared together. To his many nieces and nephews, he was a beloved uncle whose kindness, easygoing nature, and distinctive personality made him truly special.

Melvin was born on December 17, 1934 and was a 1952 graduate of Thornton Fractional Township High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Air Force.  Melvin retired from Inland Steel in East Chicago, IN with 32 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Family gatherings at Melvin’s home created cherished memories that remained with those who grew up around him. His familiar sayings, quiet nature, and well-known whistle were among the many qualities that made time spent with him so enjoyable and unforgettable.

Melvin especially enjoyed being surrounded by family, as well as fishing, gardening, taking walks, and watching Hallmark movies. Young at heart, he had a special affection for children and a calm, welcoming presence. The warmth he shared will be remembered fondly for years to come.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2505 Indiana Avenue Lansing, IL with a short service to follow at 12:00 p.m with Pastor Ryan Reese officiating.

Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Hammond, Indiana.
