Michelle Lynn Westerfield

Michelle Westerfield passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the age of 43 . Michelle was born February 10, 1980 in Munster, Indiana. She was raised in Merrillville and graduated from Merrillville High School in 1998. In 2009, Michelle met the love of her life, Jason Klang. On November 6, 2012, they were blessed with their greatest blessing, their son, Alexander Raymond Klang. Michelle had most recently worked as an RN at St. Anthony Hospital in the ICU department.

Michelle was a woman who loved with her whole heart. If you were around her, you knew how much she loved life. She was passionate about everything that she did. She loved photography, her family, and her extended family. She was very involved with her son’s Boy Scout chapter. Along with Jason, she was a Cub Scout Leader for pack #1517. She was also the committee chair for their pack.  She always went above and beyond and was the first to volunteer for anything involving her son and his activities.  Michelle had recently worked hard to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Ivy Tech with her RN degree. She was president of her chapter of Beta Chi Chi Phi Theta Kappa,  Her dream was to be a nurse in the NICU as a way of giving back for all that the NICU did for her son Xander.

She is survived by her loving spouse, Jason Klang; son, Xander; mother, Pam Hundley and step brothers, Scott (Alyssa) Hundley and Steve (Pearl) Hundley. She is also survived by a huge circle of family and friends that were considered family.

She was preceded in death by fathers, Edward J. Westerfield Jr. and Butch Hundley; parents-in-law, James and Janice Haack as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 12:00 pm. at the Gary Sportsman’s Club: 10101 Madison Street, Crown Point Indiana 46307 with Pastor Brandon Rukes officiating. There will be a dinner to follow.
