Monnie Sue Newton, age 81, peacefully passed away on Thursday April 30, 2026.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Columbus Lamont Newton on September 23, 2021.
She is survived by her children, Denice (late Ray) Cather and Douglas (Patty) Newton; daughter-in-law, Amy Newton; grandchildren, Patti Newton, Danielle Cather and Hannah Newton; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Cather, Kaleb Smith-Cather and Karlee Cather; siblings, Dale (Linda) Lamberson, Faye (Rod) Fredrick and Darlene (late Bob) Hayes.
Preceded in death by parents, Johnny and Nannie Lamberson; son, Dewayne Newton; sister, Linda Mullinax and granddaughter, Rachelle Cather.
Monnie was born on May 20, 1944, in McCrory Arkansas and was a 1962 graduate of McCrory High School. On April 29, 1966, she married the love of her life, Lamont Newton and together they shared 55 years and raised their family in Hammond, IN. They were active and proud members of The Pentecostal Church in Harvey, IL.
Monnie was a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend and will truly be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 4-6pm with a Funeral Service at 6pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN.
Interment on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 11am at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Ave, Crown Point, IN. All attendees are to gather by 10:50am at the main entrance in the circle.
