Nancy Kay Lackey

September 5, 1948 ~ June 4, 2022 (age 73)

Obituary

Nancy Kay Lackey, 73, was born September 5, 1948, in Hammond, Indiana, to Clyde and Juanita (Barker) Wright and passed away peacefully at approximately 4:00 pm on June 4, 2022.

She is survived by: son Marcus Lackey, nephews Brian (Marlisa) Wright, Jamison Lackey, niece Angela (Mark) Gabbert, great-nephews Joshua Wright, Aiden Gabbert, and Ian Gabbert, sister-in-law Carolyn (Dale) Wright, brother-in-law Roy Lackey, aunt Carole (Bob Wright) Nelson, great-aunt Rosemary (Gene) Barker, and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gary Lackey, her parents Clyde and Juanita (Barker) Wright, brother Dale Wright, sister Susan Gootee, grandparents Ogle and Dessie Wright, Wade and Virginia Barker, five loving uncles, and three loving aunts.

Nancy loved her family, friends, and church, not to mention the numerous 'nieces and nephews' that knew her as Aunt Nancy starting when she began serving in the church nursery at the age of 16. She was known for her crafting and the 'over planning' for every bridal/wedding/baby shower she decorated and managed until her 'retirement.' Even after deciding to hand these duties over to someone else, she was recruited by more than can be counted to return and decorate/manage one more shower. When the church doors were open, she was there, offering to help things run smoothly or add a splash of color with a unique craft idea.

In lieu of flowers, potted plants or donations may be directed to the Highland First Church of the Nazarene (9330 Kennedy Avenue, Highland).
