Nickolas "Nick" Bakker

Nickolas “Nick” Bakker, age 73, of Hammond, IN, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022, at home with his family. He is survived by his wife Theresa; Brother Don (Judy) Bakker; Son Michael (Kelly) Bakker; Daughter Julie (Sean) Gaines; Son; Nickolas (Dawn) Bakker Son; Justice (Laura) Bakker; Son; Nathan (Brittany) Padgitt; Daughter; Danielle (AJ) Smith; Grandchildren; Amber (Chris) Boger; Jessica (Kyle) Krutsinger; Amanda Cooper; Anthony Bakker; Jake (Angelina) Rowen; Reece Rowen; Madi Rowen; Brooke Minahan; Declan Bakker; Nick has 7 beautiful great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his Father William Bakker; Mother Helen Bakker, Brother Elliot “Butch” Baker, Sister Joyce Herz and Sister Emmelene Guritz, Great-grand-daughter Rylee Elaine.

Nick was retired from the Teamsters Local 142, he enjoyed his retired life with his family. He enjoyed working with his wife at her business and keeping busy. What he enjoyed the most was being able to leave town on Thursday to go to his lake home, that’s where he loved it the most, he loved his lake family and all the comradery he had with all of them, he had many, many special friends, he loved his weekends with his two special camping partners Brooklyn and Declan, those were his most precious memories. “He told Declan, you can’t come camping with papa until your house broken”…well that didn’t take long. Nick was not a big traveler but over the last several years I was able to get him to travel and he was enjoying it, that I’m going to miss. His zest for life and commitment to his family and friends is going to be missed by all.

Celebration of Life will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Rd), Highland, IN 46322 on Wednesday November 30, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm with a service immediately following.
