Norman Basile "Pooch" Obituary

Norman Frank Basile “Pooch”, age 82, of Highland IN, passed through the veil of Heaven on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022, he entered the Gates to the great fanfare and cheers of those who have preceded him in their entrance to the Kingdom, Father Frank, Mother Catherine, Brother James “Duke” and Brother George “Rusty”. Norman was survived by his wife Paulette Basile (nee Perry) Son Norman Jr. (Marsha), Daughter Toni-Basile (Ted) Crisco, Daughter Corrine (Shane) Tabor, Son David (Maryanne), Daughter Holly Marty (Robert), and Son Eric (Michelle) Marty. Papa to grandchildren, Norman III, Natacha, William, Jenny, Justin, Paige, Kyle, David Jr, Carly, John Michael, Britney, Kayla, Eric Jr., and Jackson, along with 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sister Gail Wilson, Sister Patricia Mitchell, Brother David (Jan) Basile and Brother Tommy Basile. His Puppy Lacy and Bentley the cat.

Norman was a proud Marine who volunteered to serve in 1957 with Platoon 180 San Diego Ca. and Okinawa Japan. Norman retired in 2003 from his career as Head Building Engineer at 105 W Madison Chicago IL. Norman had a great talent as a skilled craftsman and a love for remodeling the older homes he resided in, restoring them to their former glory. He could often be found helping friends and family as they as they called him to tap into this genius gift. His skill with hand tools was second only to, the swing of his racquet ball racket and the strike of his golf clubs. In whatever he decided to undertake whether it be work or hobbies he gave it his all.

Yet all these things pale in comparison to the love he had for his wife, his children, and his family. Said once to be “The biggest little man ever” Norman had a commanding presence when he entered a room and was never shy on emotion nor to share life advice with his children and family. He loved hard, and he fought hard. He left an indelible impression on all who knew him, his legacy will live on in those he impacted. Norman is often imitated but could never be duplicated his life will not be forgotten as those who loved him share the stories of his deeds, his charm, his love, and his exploits.

“Say not in grief ‘he is no more’ but in thankfulness that he was.” – Hebrew Proverb
