Pamela Balint, 67, of Highland, passed away surrounded by the love of her family and the countless memories she created throughout a life devoted to education, compassion, and community.
Born on April 1, 1959, in Hammond, Pamela was the beloved daughter of the late Woodrow and Dorothy Cruse. She dedicated her life to learning and helping others, graduating from Purdue University Calumet and later earning her Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University Northwest.
Pamela spent 38 remarkable years with the Lake Ridge Schools, where she touched generations of students and families. Throughout her career, she served as a second-grade teacher, fifth-grade teacher, and eventually principal. Whether in the classroom or leading a school, Pamela was known for her patience, intelligence, warmth, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child. Her impact on the community will be felt for years to come through the many lives she shaped.
Outside of her career, Pamela found joy in the simple things she loved most — reading a good book, listening to music, cheering on her beloved Gary SouthShore RailCats as a longtime season ticket holder, and spending time with her cherished cats, Fiona and Ferdinand.
Pamela’s greatest joy, however, was her family and lifelong friendships. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Gregory Balint; her brother, Gary (Sue) Cruse; nephew, Anthony Cruse; niece, Jackie Piasowsky; brother-in-law, John (Cathy) Balint; nieces, Jocelyn and Samantha Balint; and longtime good friend Dakota Albright. She also leaves behind many friends, former students, colleagues, and loved ones who will forever remember her kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit.
Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Dorothy Cruse.
A lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana, Pamela leaves behind a legacy of love, education, and dedication that will never be forgotten. Though she may be gone from this world, the lessons she taught and the lives she touched will continue on in the hearts of all who knew her.
