Phillip Jesse (PJ) Lopez Sr.

Phillip Jesse Lopez Sr aka PJ, 89, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025 at St. Catherine’s Hospital.

He’s proceeded in death by his wife, Helen C. Lopez; Parents: Father, Ancencion Lopez, Mother, Jovita Lopez.

Brothers: Pablo Lopez, Henry (Emma) Lopez, Adolph (Maria) Lopez, Monico Lopez, Victor Lopez, Ruben (Lynn) Mayen, Ezekiel(Cecelia) Lopez; Sisters Mary (Santos) Ramirez, Isabel (John) Armenta, Margaret (William) Roque, Connie (Guadalupe) Alamillo.

Survived by his 2 sons: Ernest John Lopez of East Chicago & Phillip(Linda) Lopez Jr. of East Chicago.

3 daughters, Phyllis Louis Lopez of East Chicago, Kathleen Maria(Patrick) Hansen of East Chicago & Isabel (Juan) Machuca of East Chicago.

Sisters Sandra Lopez, Louise Casteneda, Gloria Justiano.

He leaves behind 14 grandkids, 20 great grandkids, 2 great great grandkids & many cherished nieces & nephews.

Phillip was a beloved father, son, uncle, brother & grandfather who loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He served in the Army & became part of the V.F.W. Post #7237 after his time in service where he would help pay respect & honor fellow service men & women.

He lit up anytime he had the opportunity to see his grandkids who he would greet with endless cheek kisses and would say goodbye to them with a slip of money disguised by a handshake after a hug. He gave his grandchildren a love any kid would be lucky to have & always made sure his family never went without. In his later years of life, his grandson Juan Machuca, took on the honorable role as his caregiver & was truly a Heaven sent to Mr. Lopez. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness & strength.
