Ramon Gonzalez, 90, of Hammond, IN passed away on June 27, 2026. He was born on March 3, 1936, in the Indiana Harbor neighborhood of East Chicago, IN to Ramon and Maria Gonzalez.

Ramon proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, with assignments in Texas, California, Guam, and the Philippines. Following his military service, he built a career spanning more than 30 years at Inland Steel, retiring in January 1998.

A man of deep Catholic faith, Ramon prayed the rosary daily and found great peace and strength in his daily devotion. He had a lifelong love of flying and all things aviation, including building model airplanes, reading magazines and books about flight, and making trips to Oshkosh, WI for the EAA Fly-In. He also cherished the open road, and family road trips to Texas and Mexico remain some of the fondest memories shared by those who traveled with him. Ramon showed his devotion to his family not through words, but through the quiet, steady ways he showed up for them.

It was on a roadtrip to Mexico that Ramon met the love of his life, Elia. Just ten days after meeting, he proposed, and the two went on to share 54 years of marriage.

Ramon is survived by his beloved wife, Elia; his son, Ramon IV (Angie); and his daughter, Veronica. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Mary Magnon and Lucy White.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Hammond, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, IN.
