Rayetta Sue Waldrop, 88, of Highland, IN, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026. She is survived by: step-sister Sonna Jelenik, cousin-in-law Deborah Ruckman, and special cat Sweetie. She was preceded in death by: parents Gene and Mary Horn.
She received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education from the American Conservatory of Music. She was a music teacher for seven years in Calumet CIty. She then went on to teach music for thirty years Lake Central Elementary School. She traveled to 32 different countries and 49 states. She was very active in the Western Boston Terrier Club, even raising a Champion herself. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Griffith, a member of the Delta Omicron Music Fraternity, and a member of the Lake County Retired Teachers Association, and Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
She was a wonderful person who was admired by many and would put others before herself. She loved playing cards, and fishing.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am with a Funeral Service at 11:30 am. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.
