Rena Wilma "Wimpy" (Scheeringa) Van Wieren

Rena Wilma (Wimpy) Van Wieren, nee: Scheeringa (91) of Munster, Indiana, was called to join her faithful Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on January 6, 2020. She was born on September 4, 1928, to Henry and Winnie Scheeringa; the ninth of ten siblings. Wimpy was preceded in death almost eleven years ago by her devoted and loving husband, Lester Van Wieren. She was loved and is survived by her four children: Bob (Trudy) Van Wieren of Byron Center, Michigan; Don (Tracey) Van Wieren of Lowell; Al (Sharon) Van Wieren of Dyer; and Pat (Jim) Eriks of Highland. Wimpy has 10 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren (one preceding her in death), and one great great grandchild with a second soon to be born.

Wimpy spent most of her life living in Griffith and Highland. The past two years she lived and was active at Hartsfield Village. Her joy was her family, relishing Christmases in an all-too-crowded house. She found meaning and blessing to her life through her church fellowship, Faith Highland (formerly First Highland Christian Reformed). She loved worship and Bible study. Her confession was that of Question and Answer 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism: “What is your only comfort in life and death?” “That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and death, to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Friends and family are invited to visit with Wimpy’s family on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road), Highland IN 46322 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Her funeral service will begin at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m.
