Rick Dixon Obituary

Richard “Rick” Allen Dixon, of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away on April 29, 2026, at the age of 77 at the University of Chicago Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.

Rick was born in 1948 to Lorraine and Donald Dixon, the middle child in a family of sons. His late mother often described him as easy-going, good-humored, and hardworking—qualities he carried with him throughout his life. From a young age, Rick was an athlete and outdoorsman, and he spoke fondly of fishing trips in Minnesota. He looked forward to the opening of deer season each year, treasuring time spent hunting alongside family and friends.

Rick met the love of his life, Pam, in high school, and they married in 1967. Together they built a life in Hammond, where they raised their daughters, Tracy and Dawn. He proudly coached Dawn’s Little League Girls Softball team at Edison, leading them to a State Championship in 1988. He later continued coaching girls softball at Gavit High School.

Rick was a devoted father, but he truly found his greatest joy in being a grandfather—“Papa.” He was a constant and loving presence in the lives of Tayler, Matthew, and Emma, and his grandchildren adored him. He shared his love of the outdoors with them, taught them the importance of family and friendship, and always found a way to bring laughter into every moment.
His love only grew as he welcomed his great-grandchildren, Theodore and Margaret, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

After more than 40 years with the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad, Rick retired and relocated with Pam to their lake house in Warsaw, Indiana. There, he embraced the life he loved—fishing on Chapman Lake, taking on projects around the house, and making memories with family and friends. Rick also cherished his time working as an usher at Notre Dame football games and concerts, something he truly enjoyed being a part of.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and Donald Dixon; his brother, Kenneth Dixon; and sister-in-law, Gail Dixon.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Dixon (née Law); his daughters, Tracy Ferguson and Dawn Dixon; his grandchildren, Tayler (Jeffrey) Danziger, Matthew Ferguson, and Emma Ferguson; his great-grandchildren, Theodore Danziger and Margaret Danziger; his brothers, Chuck (Diane) Dixon and Robert Dixon; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins across the Dixon, Law, Schwer, and Pupillo families.
