Robert Hedges, age 85, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Hedges; children, Lanette (Brian) Adams, Denise (Bob) Tribble, Bob Hedges, and Julie (Mark) Anderson; grandchildren, Cole (Kayli) Tribble, Zachary (Sarah) Adams, Allie Tribble, Sammi (Angel) Nunez, Jack Anderson, Rachel (Jacob) Rennie, Maddie Anderson, Cooper Hedges, and Sophie Hedges; great grandchildren, Olivia, Saylor, and Layla (with one more on the way); brother, Bill (Marlene) Hedges; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Bob was born on April 12, 1940 in Shawano, Wisconsin and graduated from Griffith High School in 1958. He was a longtime resident of Highland, Indiana until he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Ross, on August 27th, 1960. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
As a youngster growing up in Highland, Bob and his three brothers helped his parents build their home in town. Bob often shared stories of hitchhiking every morning to school in Griffith because there was no Highland High School yet. In
his teen years, he played many sports, including baseball. After he got married, he worked many years at Griffith Furniture, eventually owning his own store, Towne Furniture, in Schererville. He was a hard worker and did a wonderful job
supporting his family and loving them too. When he became a Papa, he took great pride in all of his grandchildren, always doting on them and attending every event. After retirement, he and Nancy enjoyed traveling the world, often with old friends from high school.
Bob knew no strangers. Everywhere he went, he seemed to run into someone he knew – whether he’d sold them furniture, bowled or golfed with them, or watched their kids play sports alongside his own. He will always be remembered as our upbeat, kind, and loving Papa.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, November 1st from 2:00-4:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN. Please stop by to visit with the family and share a favorite “Hedge” story in his honor.
