Robert Dee Long

Robert Dee Long, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024.

He is survived by his children Christine Ann and David Robert (Donna); grandchildren Emily Marie Long and David Robert Long Jr.; dear nieces and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife, Irene Theresa (Rakowski); parents Thelma (Willoughby) and Cornelius Long; his brother Victor Long and nephew Billy Dee Long.

Robert was born on December 29, 1933 in Independence, MO.  He was raised in Kansas City and Independence MO for 15 years.  He then moved to Northwest IN and graduated from Hammond High School in 1951.

Robert and Irene were married on  May 14, 1955.  Soon after their marriage, Robert served in the Armed Forces for two years.  He was stationed in Germany where Irene joined him from November 1956 to November 1957.  He was discharged in late 1957 and they returned home to Northwest IN.

Robert spent 12 years working in local industry such as Keyes Fibre, Combustion Engineering, Inland Steel and Stauffer Chemical Co.  He worked at Amoco and then BP Refinery for 34 years as an operator, first class operator and supervisor before retiring in 2000.

Robert was a member of the RLDS church for 58 years. 

Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.  He will truly be missed by all.

Visitation and Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center,  8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road)  Highland, IN, 46322.

Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
