Robert "Bob" Scott Monko

Robert “Bob” Scott Monko, 51, of Griffith, Indiana passed away surrounded by family on Monday, March 18th 2019. Born in Chicago Illinois on June 8th 1967. Bob grew up in Calumet City attending St. Andrew School and graduated from Thornton Fractional North High School in 1985. Here he began his lifelong passion for sports by playing football and baseball which developed into coaching softball for 12 years and sitting for the Board of Griffith Girls Softball. Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Griffith, Indiana where he lived and raised his family. He worked for Nisource/Xerox as a printer beginning at age 18 until his retirement. Upon retirement Bob spent his time eating, watching sports, and spending time with the people he loved. Bob never missed a Green Bay Packers, Chicago Black Hawks or Chicago Cubs game and never turned down a good pizza.

Bob is survived by two children, Samantha “Tiny” Monko and Andrew “Beef” Monko; granddaughter, Krysten “the monsta” Monko; brother, David Monko and his wife Liz; best friends Renee and Tim Tinsely; and dog, Kylie. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Matthew and Frieda Monko, maternal grandparents David and Edna Gonzalez, and parents Matthew and Victoria Monko.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, Indiana, 46322.  A Funeral Service will be held at 4:30 PM at the funeral home, immediately following visitation. 

The family requests that members attending wear their favorite sports team apparel in remembrance of Bob’s passion for sports. In lieu of memorial contributions, please contact Samantha or Andrew Monko for donations.
