Ronald "Goat" Galosich Obituary

Ronald “Goat” Galosich of Highland, Indiana, peacefully passed away on September 30, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on March 5, 1938, in East Chicago, Indiana, Ron was a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, a loyal friend, and an educator to thousands.

Ron was a graduate of Hammond Morton High School and earned degrees in History and Education from Butler University and Valparaiso University. While attending Butler University, Ron, affectionately known there as “Boots,” was a proud member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon chapter.

After graduation, Ron returned to Hammond to open and operate the Novel Inn, where he met his loving wife of 58 years, Anita (née Golarz).

Soon after, he went on to teach U.S. History and Government at Hammond High School for more than 30 years. He was a dedicated teacher who encouraged kids to be not only good students, but also good citizens, many of whom still proudly display their Golden G Awards.

After retirement, Ron remained close with his “brothers,” a handful of teachers known simply as “The Car Pool.” Among his many interests, he loved good books and jazz; painting the people and things he loved; daily crossword puzzles and sudoku; rooting for the Chicago Bears and Bulls; tending to his garden; relaxing by his pond with a sip of Jameson and a good cigar; and long days on the golf course (shout-out to the “Memphis Six”).

Ron was preceded in death by his doting mother, Mildred Pericich; and sisters, Lucille Balas and Rosemarie Kaminski. He is survived by his wife, Anita; his son, Tom Galosich (Kathy); and daughters, Allison Bardic (Naser), and Erin Mayes (Arthur). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jacob, Ryleigh, Noah, and Payton Galosich; Alena, Ava, and Aidan Bardic; and many nieces and nephews.

Ron chose not to have a formal service. A celebration of life will be held at a later time.

We apologize for any inaccuracies or omissions above, but as one of Ron’s favorite authors often said, “So it goes.”
