Sandra J. Stone

Sandra J. Stone, age 72, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022, after a short illness. She was born in Hammond, Indiana, on January 27, 1950, to Mary and Frank Brehmer. Her two sisters survive her: Marilou Sajek of Tamarac, FL and Arlene (Jim) Mandigo of Houston, TX; three nephews: Troy (Deana) Brehmer of Valparaiso, IN, Rick (Debbie) Sajek of Parkland, FL, and John Marlow of Houston TX. Grandchildren: Miranda (Joe Moore) Stone, Zachary Stone, Blake Stone, and Samuel Stone; Dear friend and Miranda’s mother Katherine (Anthony) Kuypers of Crown Point. Two stepsons: Kevin Stone and Brandon (Lisa) Stone; Lastly, but not least, her beloved cats Clifford and Clyde. 
Preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 25 years, Douglas L. Stone, parents, Frank and Mary Brehmer, brother, Charles “Butch” Brehmer, stepson Kenneth Stone, and grandson Marcus Taylor and her beloved cat “Mister.”

Sandra attended Hammond Vocational School and was part of the graduating class of 1968. Shortly after graduating from high school, she worked for CNA, a Chicago-based company and one of the leading commercial insurance companies for over 20 years. Sandra was spunky, always stayed active, and enjoyed meeting new people, which led her to a 12-year tenure as a part-time sales associate at Meijer’s in Highland, IN, during what would have been her retirement years. She was very fond of and spent every chance she could with her only granddaughter, Miranda, who gave her the nickname “Gummy". Sandra had a zest for life and a commitment to family. She will be missed!

Visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, Indiana, 46322, on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, with the funeral service following immediately at 10:30 am. The interment will be held at Chapel Lawn in Crown Point, Indiana.
