Santiago Gusman

Santiago Gusman, age 94 peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

He is survived by his loving wife, Esther Gusman; children, John Gusman and Susan (Bruce) Unruh. Grandchildren, Michael Gusman, Jordan (Autumn) Travis, Raygen Travis and Kendal Travis.

Siblings, Lupe (late Fermin) Rosales, Mary (late Jesse) Vega, Alice (late Joseph) Murray, Josephine (late James) Fitzpatrick, Audrey (Edward) Ortiz and Flora (late Michael) Wittlinger; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Proceeded in death by parents, Salvador and Pauline Gusman and sisters, Lupe Rosales and Audrey Ortiz.

Santiago was born November 13,1931 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, where he was raised alongside his six sisters. He then joined the Marine Corps in October of 1951, where he served overseas in the Korean War for over a year and remained enlisted for three years total. After leaving the military, Santiago met his wife of over 65 years, Esther. Santiago and his wife raised their two children in Highland, IN. Santiago retired from Wisconsin Steel. He enjoyed working on cars, bird and storm watching, and being with his friends and family. He enjoyed telling stories about the war and his service to all.

Santiago was a warm-hearted, loving son, brother, uncle, grandfather (Sapo), and friend who will be missed dearly by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 beginning at 3:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 6:30 pm with Pastor Randy Harrison officiating at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road Highland, IN.
