Sarah E. Hamby

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sarah E. Hamby, who peacefully left this world on February 8, 2025, at the age of 85. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose kindness and love touched everyone who knew her.

Born on January 28, 1940, in Hammond, Indiana, Sarah (Doll) lived a life full of love, compassion, and resilience. She was the heart of her family, who provided warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support. Her greatest joys were spending time with loved ones, reading books, sharing stories, imparting wisdom and doing her best to help those she felt in need.

She is survived by her sons, Jay Robert (Teralyn) Hamby, Richard Daniel Hamby, her grandchildren Tyler Hutcheson, Tarah Hamby, Brandon Hamby, David Witt, Matthew Witt, Heather Hamby, Billy Hamby, and her sister Liz Edwards. She is also survived by great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews, who will forever carry her love in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Leta Hishon, her siblings Bill Hishon, Hazel Durham, Margaret Crane, June Glidewell, Jean Randall, her husband JL Hamby, and her children, Sarah Regina Hutcheson, and William (Bill) Hamby.

Sarah enjoyed reading books, socializing with family and friends and doing whatever she could to help others. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all whose life she touched.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on February 12, 2025, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8941 Kleinman Road (one block of south Ridge Road) Highland, IN with a Funeral Service at 12:00 pm

Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Though she may no longer be with us, her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
