Scott Crawford Obituary

Scott Crawford, age 64, of Highland, IN passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026 after a day of golfing with friends. He was born on September 15, 1961 to Catherine Crawford Casey and the late John Lacy Crawford in Galveston, TX.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a man whose smile lit up a room, whose kindness lifted hearts, and whose appreciation of life was something to be admired and strived for. He was a devoted friend, a loving father, son and brother, and a bright light to anyone that was lucky enough to cross his path.

Scott was cheerful and easygoing from day one. He was raised by his wonderful mother, Catherine, and grew up with his two big sisters, Lacy and Caryn. He was active in sports like football and surfing and found his love for water skiing at Sea Arama Marine World ski club with his sister Caryn.

Scott graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, TX, and continued his education at University of Texas (Hook ‘em horns).  He then paused his education to follow his passion of water skiing, becoming a member of the Orlando Sea World Water Ski team in 1982. Scott quickly developed a niche as a true entertainer on the water, specializing in back-barefooting and “artistic” crashes. At Sea World, Scott met some of his closest friends that, to this day, recall his big heart and buoyant personality.

While at Sea World, Scott met Dawn. The two married and would later move to Indiana to start a family, raising two boys, Kyle and Keith, and some dogs along the way.

Scott was an admirable father who the boys could count on being at every sporting event, birthday party, backyard hang, or late night homework session. Scott and his family spent the summers at Bass Lake. Grill Master, Boat Driver, and Host were just a few titles he held while at the lake. Whether it was whipping kids around on the tube or taking as many laps as needed to teach someone how to water ski, he found his real calling as a father during this time in his life.

As the boys went on to create lives of their own, Scott found a new community in northwest Indiana, spreading his compassion and laughter to new and old friends in the area. He found joy in neighborhood get-togethers, Growlers, music, and his passion for golf. It is during this time that he finally started to break 100 consistently. Anyone who golfed with Scott will agree he was the perfect man to be on the course with. His frustration never lasted past one bad swing and he could always laugh at a sloppy shot.  It was always on to the next swing. “Just slow it down,” he would say. The friends and family he golfed and spent time with were the lucky ones.

It's hard to come to terms with and hard to understand that he’s moved on from this world, but the laughter and joy that he brought to the people around him will never fade.  The memories made with Scott will forever be etched in the minds of those who loved him.

Scott is survived by the mother of his children, Dawn Regeski Crawford; his sons, Keith Crawford, Kyle Crawford; Daughter-in-Law, Cindy Crawford; grandson, Cooper Wesley Crawford; sister, Cathryn Lacy Byerly; and mother, Catherine Crawford Casey. Preceded in death by his father, John Lacy Crawford; and sister, Caryn Elizabeth Taylor.
